Workforce Development
Workforce Investment Board (WIB)
The Workforce Investment Board (WIB) is Oakland’s federal workforce training and employment program. The Chamber and Oakland’s WIB work together on an ad hoc basis to streamline and expand the region's workforce development system to meet the needs of area employers.
In addition, the Chamber is working actively with its regional partners to ensure that the region’s workforce preparation system is responsive to the needs of both employers and job seekers. By facilitating the communication between the Oakland WIB, employers, training providers and placement services, the Chamber works to ensure that area employers can access a well qualified workforce and ensure that Oakland residents and others facing barriers to entering the workforce are linked to an employment development system that works for everyone.
The following local public and private workforce development organizations also exist to streamline and expand the region's workforce development system in order to meet the needs of area employers:
- The Oakland Unified School District
- The Peralta Community College District
- California State University East Bay
- The Oakland Workforce Investment Board
- The Oakland Private Industry Council
- The Alameda County Central Labor Council
- The Unity Council
- Oakland Workforce Development Collaborative
- Change to Win
